Corsica via France/Italy: August 1998
The new roof-tent provided a very large and normally
comfortable sleeping area, but the winds were so wild
there that up top everything swayed and rattled.
Most memorably, there were
lots of large ancient stone
'monuments' - goodness
knows where they got them all
from, those crazy Corsicans.
A lovely island with a heady mix of French and Italian
influences, but troubled by lots of deliberate bush fires -
Jan and I saw some, and they were big and scary.
Crowded in summer and packed with French hill walkers,
but wild camping was allowed on the north beach - great,
apart from at night the lighthouse on the distant island
shone brightly into the tent every 42 seconds !
